When a friend in the San Diego food industry announced on her social medial page a few months ago that she had sold everything that didn’t fit into three suitcases and was moving to Seychelles, I did two things in rapid succession. First, I googled Seychelles. I’m not gonna bore you with the Wikipedia style details, but this is a pretty dang small island located dead smack in the middle of nowhere. Paradisical, yes. But, a long ways from anywhere.
Then, I thought about what it would take to make that kind of decision in my life. Truth is, there’s a big part of me, and probably at least a little part of all of us that dreams of going off-grid… shutting out the noise of the world, doing a re-set of our lives and exploring what things might be like if we set off on a journey that wasn’t pre-determined by a path… Well, that’s what this Broad did.
That’s not to say she doesn’t have a plan. She clearly does, although it’s of an entrepreneurial nature that she’s keeping closely guarded until she gets herself settled and her new enterprise launched. But, you’ll find out all about that as you follow along on her adventures.
Anyways, I don’t have the answer to my question, yet – what it would take to completely clean house and start over surrounded with new people, culture, experiences, language, hell, pretty much a whole new universe. But, I’m hanging on the Broad’s every word hoping to find it. This is riveting stuff…intrigue, travel, adventure, politics, commerce, romance and food…lots of food. Stay tuned as I post her ongoing adventures. Here’s her inaugural post. Enjoy, and Cheers, my friends!
A Broad in Seychelles – A Whole New World:
Hello from the island of Mahe, Seychelles! I had a completely different vision for this blog in the beginning. I wanted to share the story of 60 days from San Diego to arrival, what it takes to sell, donate or give away everything you own to get down to three suitcases. Amid timing issues, wanting to enjoy every last minute I could with friends and family, and now the reality of technology challenges, the plan has changed! I am not yet able to add additional photos so if that time arises I will backtrack a bit down the road. (I think I need IT support…no surprise to anyone who knows me!) I consider it a personal triumph just to have produced this blog on my own. Now that I am here and am immersed in my new adventure I find it best to begin in the present.
