Fluffy Unicorn and I have always cherished the chance to celebrate special occasions and have made a point to turn them into special dates, meals and events. After almost 25 years, though, I finally slipped up on this latest Valentine’s Day.
I had been looking for a riding mower and finally caught one on sale at the local home improvement store. Zip zap, off I went and came home with a box full of parts and assembly instructions in some form of English. I ended up spending the better part of the day putting that thing together when, all of a sudden, I realized I had forgotten about taking Fluffy Unicorn out to celebrate our love.
Ruh, roh. But, some quick thinking, a marker and a razor knife came to the rescue. I cut a large heart out of the box I had unpacked and wrote a witty apology note, “I am so sorry I forgot our special day, my love, but if you play your cards right, maybe we can make it a special night! XOXO”
I heard her in the shower upstairs as I snuck into the house, so I lit a couple of candles, propped the heart on the table and went outside to clean up the garage. About 1/2 hour later I went back in, the candles were blown out and a single light from the stairwell lit up the note. Fluffy Unicorn had left this response, “Honey, I hope you enjoy your new mower…it’s the only thing you’ll be riding for awhile.”
Cheers, my friends!
